Plan
Write an interview script
Plan the conversation: warm-up, core questions, wrap-up.
How to do it
- Start with easy questions about their life, not your product.
- Ask about specific past events ("last time you…").
- Add follow-up probes for each core question.
- End with an open question.
Tip. AI drafts questions from your inputs. Rewrite any question that suggests its own answer.

Templates that use it
- Exploratory study: We don’t know the problem well yet: why do people do what they do?
- Double Diamond: A whole project, from understanding a problem to a tested answer.
- Jobs to be done: Why do people start using, switch to or leave a product like yours?
- Design Thinking: Empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test, in the classic five modes.
